The 15th annual event hits Darwin in May

The 15th annual BASSINTHEGRASS festival has announced its primary line-up for this year's event, boasting an array of acclaimed Aussie artists that includes the likes of recent triple j favourites Tash Sultana and Amy Shark, as well as veteran acts such as Thundamentals, John Butler Trio and more.

Also signing on for this May's event are Boo Seeka, L D R U, Peking Duk, The Rubens and resurgent pop siblings The Veronicas, all of whom will be joined by a crop of local artists and contenders in the Battle Of The School Bands competition (yet to be announced).

The calibre of artist that the festival has attracted once again in 2017 is not lost on Northern Territory Minister for Tourism & Culture Lauren Moss, who tipped her hat to both Shark and Sultana — the respective #2 and #3 place-getters in this year's triple j Hottest 100 — in particular.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have this calibre of entertainment perform at People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS," Moss said in a statement. "There is something in the mix for all ages and music fans alike, covering all types of genres.

"I would like to congratulate Amy Shark coming in at No. 2 on the triple j Hottest 100 countdown with her hit single Adore, along with Tash Sultana, coming in at No. 3 with Jungle."

Midway into its second decade of operation, BASSINTHEGRASS is still finding new ways to improve upon its previous events — this year, that comes in the form of a newly introduced VIP area, featuring a shaded hillside area, drinks and finger food, a private bar and bathrooms, furnishings and, for a bit of fun, a very cool souvenir ticket.

For the 11th year running, the festival will be presented by People's Choice Credit Union, with triple j also joining the support team this year.

"This year, we are excited to announce triple j are on board in supporting the event," Moss said. "This involvement puts us on the national stage as we look towards growing the event to a wider audience in the future.

"BASSINTHEGRASS is the perfect event for festival-goers chasing the endless summer and is a great opportunity to visit the NT."

If you're looking to make the most of that opportunity, tickets for the 2017 BASSINTHEGRASS festival are on sale now for $70 before the second release hits and raises the price to a still-very-reasonable $100.

Last year's event sold out a fortnight out from the festival, and there's little reason to suspect the reaction will be any more subdued this year, so you'll want to get on these tickets pretty quickly to secure your pass, lest you miss out altogether.

The 2017 BASSINTHEGRASS festival will be held at Darwin Amphitheatre on Saturday 20 May.
