More Sycco More Sycco

Indie-pop sensation Sycco has been the latest artist added to the Quandamooka Festival bill, slotting in-between some of the country's finest First Nations acts like Emma Donovan & The Putbacks, Roger Knox, Joe Geia, CKNU and Quandamooka poet and rapper Sachém.

Sycco has been quickly climbing the charts over the past few years, winning two Queensland Music Awards and was nominated for APRA, AIR, J and National Indigenous Music Awards. Genre-defying and difficult to place in one basket, Sycco represents a wealth of new musicians on the rise that are carrying the future of Aussie music. Later in the year, she's set to tour with legendary acts Tame Impala and Genesis Owusu.

In addition to the number of not-to-be-missed musicians playing over the weekend, punters attending Quandamooka festival will be able to fully immerse themselves in the cultural practices of Quandamooka peoples through a range of weaving workshops hosted by Aunty Sonja and Leecee Carmichael and other prominent Quandamooka weavers, along with a range of cultural heritage displays.

A range of First Nations dance troops will also perform, each representing a different region. There’ll be dances from the Yullubaribah (Quandamooka), Yerongpan (Meanjin region), Ngarii Talga, Mununjali, Jinaburra, Gubbi Gubbi, Goomeroi, and Wungar Daray Yubbas troops.

Art and market stalls will operate over all three days of the festival, and will offer plenty of merchandise including Murralappi Arts’ handcrafted bags, Kulture clothing, Salt Water Murris’ art, Jarlo Candles, Delvene Cockatoo-Collins art, Hogarth Arts, Chaboo art, and even more.

Festival goers wondering about travel plans should feel at ease. A short trip from the mainland, Quandamooka is easily accessible over the entire weekend via ferry. Those not wishing to bring their vehicle across have the option to get a water taxi/passenger ferry across to Dunwich. From there, public transport is available in buses and taxis.

A late-night chartered water taxi from Stradbroke Flyer will leave One Mile Jetty at Dunwich at 9:30pm on Friday 26th, and 10:30pm on Saturday 27th returning to Cleveland. The trip to Cleveland is short - only 40 minutes from Brisbane CBD and an hour from the Gold Coast.

The full line-up and schedule can be found at the Quandamooka Festival website, where you can also grab your tickets.
