Splendour In The Grass Announces 2023 Dates; Who Could Be Playing This Year?

Save the date: Splendour In The Grass is returning later this year, with all of us hoping that we don’t experience another Splendour In The Mud situation.

This year’s festival will once again be held at the North Byron Parklands from Friday, 21 July to Sunday, 23 July 2023, with onsite camping accessible from Wednesday, 19 July.

Splendour organisers also encourage punters who have attended the event five times or more to sign up for its Member program so that you can access tickets early—applications close on Friday, 10 March, at 5 pm AEDT. Sign up here.

Splendour also notes that you need to stay tuned, as the line-up announcement is coming “very, very soon”.

About that line-up announcement… Take a cursory glance at this year’s Fuji Rock Festival in Japan (28-30 July), which often shares acts with Splendour as artists play both as part of their touring circuits - there’s a chance we could see Foo Fighters and Lizzo at Splendour. They are both headliners at Fuji Rock, both with Splendour-shaped holes in their touring schedules. 

Lewis Capaldi, also playing Fuji Rock, will be wrapping up his Australian and New Zealand tour on 19 July, with space in his schedule until he heads to Manchester, UK for a show on 25 July. Maybe day one or day two?

Alanis Morissette also has a huge gap in her tour dates that screams Splendour and making up for her cancelled Jagged Little Pill Australian tour. 

Last week, the organisers and co-founders of Splendour in the Grass released a statement apologising for their 2022 festival and laid out a series of changes and improvements to make future festivals even stronger.

On their website, Paul Piticco and Jess Ducrou stated that the 2022 festival was, “without a doubt the most challenging and difficult."

Rather than looking backwards, the founders are looking forward with proactive improvements to the festival. 

They state the improvements will come in the form of "weatherproofing upgrades to the venue such as wider walkways and hard surfaces in key traffic areas around the toilets and amenity blocks."

They are also quoted saying, "enhanced draining throughout the site, easier terrain to move around," as well as, "significant onsite materials and equipment to immediately address unexpected weather conditions, improved communications with you and our local community before, during and after the event, compliance from the bus companies to deliver on their agreed service levels, reviewing our traffic management plan with 2022 learnings."

They'll also "improve workforce levels and enhancing staff, volunteer and worker facilities for staying and working onsite."
