Melbourne indie dream-pop act Snakadaktal have announced they have broken up.

The band posted the news on their Facebook last night, with the statement reading in part:

"It saddens us to share with you that Snakadaktal has come to an end, " the post began.

"Since we were 15, we have been sharing our passion for music together. Today, collectively, we feel that it is time to move onto different pursuits that we each individually wish to explore.

Our goal has always been to create music that exists timelessly. We hope that what we have released will accompany you and be there for as long as you need it. It is yours to keep."

Snakadaktal were the winners of the triple j Unearthed High competition in 2011 - just a couple of years after the five piece first formed.

Last year, they released their debut album Sleep In The Water, while a remix EP, The Sun II - which featured of some the debut album's tracks was unveiled only weeks into 2014.

The quintet played this past weekend at the new Mountain Sounds Festival and just a couple of hours before the break-up post, the band linked ticket details to a gig at the Northcote Social Club on Saturday 29 March to their Facebook. There has been no official confirmation as yet as to whether this show will still go ahead.

UPDATE: Snakadaktal's show at Melbourne's Northcote Social Club on Saturday 29 March has been confirmed as their final performance. Tickets are on sale now.
