"It wouldn’t be a typical video with The Filmery if I wasn’t required to do something unpleasant, and this time around it was eating a lot of cold Irish stew from the tin."

With his brand new album 'Living In Colour' coming out just last week, Shane Nicholson got into a bunker under a bin to celebrate (and make a new music video).

On set for the And You Will Have Your Way video at The Filmery with Duncan Toombs. I think this marks the 13th video we’ve made together over the years.

This time around, Duncan has imagined a lonely, dystopian future in which I’m living in an underground bunker, hidden away from the world, bashing away at an old typewriter.

I’ve always loved working with Dunc - we’re mates and I trust him implicitly. So much so that I rarely get too involved in the planning of the videos we make together. I like giving him the space and freedom to run with his ideas and leave me in the “need to know” zone.

My doomsday bunker was replete with bed, appliances, a writing desk and a large supply of tinned soup.

It wouldn’t be a typical video with The Filmery if I wasn’t required to do something unpleasant, and this time around it was eating a lot of cold Irish stew from the tin.

Also, endless trips up and down a ladder and in and out of a large plastic bin. My calves are popping now, though!

I always feel like Duncan completely gets where I’m coming from artistically, and he shares my love of the slightly more absurd side of video-making. We always have a heap of fun on set.

Making this video has reignited my love for an old typewriter. After not owning one for over 20 years, I’m now keen to track one down again. Yes, a laptop is much more convenient, but there’s something magical and romantic about the clacking of the keys, the more “physical” nature of operating it, and the battery never goes flat.

Nicholson is heading out on tour from October through to February 2022 to celebrate the release of his new album, Living In Colour
