We did not see this partnership coming

More Rob Zombie More Rob Zombie

Veteran musician and shlock-horror aficionado Rob Zombie has been behind his fair share of gory cinematic goodies in his time, but his newest project, in conjunction with US cable network Starz, is probably his least-expected yet.

The House Of 1000 Corpses director is teaming up with ex-That '70s Show-and-Family-Guy-mainstay-turned-bankable-movie-star Mila Kunis to create new horror-comedy series Trapped and, as Blabbermouth reports, the unlikely partnership comes via Kunis' recently launched company Orchard Farm Productions, with the actress and entrepreneur serving as executive producer alongside Zombie, who will also step behind the camera to take on directorial duties.

"We're excited to work in partnership with Rob Zombie as well as Mila Kunis and her Orchard Farm productions associates Susan Curtis, Cami Curtis and Lisa Sterbakov on this horror-comedy series," Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik said in a statement.

The relatively brief synopsis for the half-hour series indicates the giggles and screams will take place "over a single night in the home of a wealthy family under attack by a murderous cult". Little else has been revealed so far, other than that the show is the brainchild of creator/writer Joey Slamon (Arrested Development), so at least half its stylistic pedigree is of some serious quality.

That said, it won't be the only such property in the realm of all things slash-heavy and blood-riddled for Starz, which has already cut its teeth in the horror-comedy game with Ash Vs Evil Dead — so if Trapped takes its cues from the lessons learnt in producing that show's first season, we could be in for a sleeper treat indeed.

If you ever want to see it Down Under, though, you best investigate your options for teeing up some access to Starz — the network has secured all domestic and international multiplatform rights for the show, including television, home entertainment and digital media.
