“So tonight, this goes out to a white man that... mocks Asian people on a podcast. He also owns my masters."

On Friday, 24 June, Rina Sawayama performed an electrifying 60-minute set at Glastonbury Festival, which saw the British-Japanese singer play hits from her two albums, Sawayama and Hold The Girl.

However, as she was preparing to launch into the Sawayama classic, STFU!, she made some comments about her labelmate and shareholder of the record label she’s signed to in a furious speech about racism.

While she didn't mention him by name, Sawayama seemed to blast labelmate and shareholder Matty Healy, vocalist of The 1975 and shareholder at Dirty Hit Limited as of January 2023.

Taking aim at Healy’s February appearance on The Adam Friedland Show podcast, where he, host Friedland, and producer Nick Mullen discussed rapper Ice Spice’s ethnicity, all while mocking Chinese, Japanese and Hawaiian accents, Sawayama has had enough.

While on the podcast, Healy also joked about watching "Ghetto Gaggers" pornography. In April, Healy resigned from his position of Director at Dirty Hit Limited, which runs the record label The 1975 and Sawayama are signed to, Dirty Hit.

In a moment that Sawayama has likely been waiting for since February, she said, “I wrote this next song because I was sick and tired of these microaggressions.

“So tonight, this goes out to a white man that watches Ghetto Gaggers and mocks Asian people on a podcast.” She added, “He also owns my masters. I’ve had enough!”

Going full rockstar, Sawaymama then interpolated Korn’s Blind and Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff into the already-heavy STFU! You can check out the footage of the moment below.

Making reference to the podcast while The 1975 were touring in New Zealand earlier this year, Healy said, “I just feel a bit bad, and I’m kind of a bit sorry if I’ve offended you. Ice Spice, I’m sorry. It’s not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m a dick. I love you, Ice Spice. I’m so sorry.”

In March, Sawayama dropped the lead single of the new blockbuster John Wick: Chapter 4, Eye For An Eye, which The Music described as an “industrial-heavy, old-school action song.” We added, “As Sawayama sings her heart outgrating guitars and metal-influenced soundscapes slink around, which will be perfect for the big screen.”
