Rina Sawayama seems to have slammed Matty Healy, labelmate and shareholder in the record label she’s signed to, Dirty Hit, yet again. While she didn’t name him, The 1975 vocalist’s recent on-stage apology for recent controversies seems to have gained her ire.

In late June, Sawayama took to the main stage at Glastonbury festival and seemed to blast Healy before launching into a furious rendition of her track STFU.

Taking aim at Healy’s February appearance on The Adam Friedland Show podcast, where he, host Friedland, and producer Nick Mullen discussed rapper Ice Spice’s ethnicity, all while mocking Chinese, Japanese and Hawaiian accents, Sawayama said she’d “had enough”.

While on the podcast, Healy joked about watching "Ghetto Gaggers" pornography. In April, Healy resigned from his position of Director at Dirty Hit Limited, which runs the record label The 1975 and Sawayama are signed to.

In a moment that Sawayama had likely been waiting for since February, she said, “I wrote this next song because I was sick and tired of these microaggressions.

“So tonight, this goes out to a white man that watches Ghetto Gaggers and mocks Asian people on a podcast.” She added, “He also owns my masters. I’ve had enough!”

Last week, Healy addressed his recent disputes while performing to a massive crowd at London’s Finsbury Park. The singer said, “I'm not someone who takes things for granted. The 1975 isn't a dry band. There's a lot of irony in it.”

Not exactly apologising but still showing remorse, he continued, per NME, “I was always trying stuff. And some stuff I got right and some stuff I got wrong... But do you know what? There's a lot of things I've said, jokes that I've made; there's probably a couple of fucking songs I'd take back if I had the chance.”

He added, “What I mean is that I really am only doing this because I want to make you guys laugh and feel good. That's what my favourite art does, and that's what I'm trying to do. I get a bit excited.”

On Saturday (8 July), Sawayama performed at NOS Alive festival in Lisbon and seemed to confront Healy once again before ripping into STFU.

“So I’ve been thinking a lot about apologies. Isn’t it funny how some people get away with not apologising ever?” she began, per Billboard.

“For saying some racist shit, for saying some sexist shit? So let’s try this: Why don’t you apologise for once in your life without making it about your fucking self?” You can watch footage of the moment below.

Last month, Healy told The New Yorker that his recent comments “doesn’t really matter” and said that anyone who was offended was “deluded” or a “liar”.
