Melbourne Metal Group Ink Global Deal With Sharptone Records

Us Aussies take a lot of pride in our burgeoning metal scene, and today one of our own has announced a barrage of good news, with Melbourne quintet Pridelands lashing out with a brand new single, a music video and some juicy news that, alongside their local home at Resist Records, they've signed a global deal with Sharptone Records for releases beyond Aus and New Zealand. 

Having joined the iconic Resist Records stable earlier this year, it's been a huge 2021 for the South Australia-turned-Melbourne outfit, including the release of their sonically and thematically hard-hitting new tune Heavy Tongue back in March. And with their riff-laden reach now amplified by today's announcement, the brand new single The Walls marks a dizzying stylistic step forward for the group, as well as their official first release simultaneously via Resist Records and Sharptone Records.

Produced by Jamie Marinos and the band themselves, with mixing by George Lever (Loathe, Sleep Token) and mastering by Ermin Harmidovic (Architects, Northlane, Periphery), The Walls finds Pridelands tackling life's struggles while also clinging to small shreds of hope, with the accompanying music video offering a timely metaphor for feeling trapped by addiction or self-doubt.

"The Walls is a song about the constant struggles of life, to put it simply," vocalist Mason Bunt explained. 

"Life can be perceived as a series of hurdles or challenges and depending on your outlook, this can be a good or a bad thing."

"Addictions and self-doubt are very common 'walls' that many will face in their life, slowing their ambitions to move forward. This song is about raging against the dying of the light, taking the ever-so slight chance of victory and holding onto that hope.

"In the music video as the viewer you are watching this cycle play out as you view the individuals trapped inside the walls, as another side of their life plays out on the screens inside their rooms. Our idea for the visuals was to simply create a room with no exit and no colour and use that as a metaphor for the routine of being trapped in that cycle, repeating the same numbing behaviours that stop you from moving forward into your next metamorphosis.

"Lyrically and visually the struggle is never resolved."
