The Day Powderfinger Fans Have Been Waiting For Is Here - There's FINALLY A New Album

When Powderfinger announced their disbandment a decade ago, there was a moment of collective heartbreak around the country. 

The Brisbane group had grown to become one of the country's most loved and regarded acts, for both their impressive studio albums and their rollicking live shows. 

For the time since, the same question has always hung over the band members - frontman Bernard Fanning, bass player John 'JC' Collins, drummer Jon Coghill and guitarists Ian Haug and Darren Middleton - "will Powderfinger ever reunite?" 2020 has offered a lot of surprises but among them was that it actually happened - the band regrouped for a special live streamed performance to raise money for Support Act and Beyond Blue.

And that leads us today, 11 years on from their last album - 2009's Golden Rule - Powderfinger share Unreleased (1998-2010).

While the band haven't jumped back in the studio - and say that they don't intend to either - they have dusted off a collection of previously, ahem, unreleased tracks that were recorded between, ahem, 1998 and 2010. 

"We were always careful to keep our albums to around about vinyl length," said the band. 

"While we searched for material from the Odyssey Number 5 writing and recording period we kept uncovering long forgotten tunes that were unmixed, unfinished or unsuitable for the purposes of the records we made. 

"We narrowed it down to about 15 and then down to a final 10. It brought back lots of memories and stories and made it clear how high we had set the bar with regard to the quality of songs we released."

And while it might not be exactly the reunion we've been wanting, Unreleased will at the very least keep a lot of Powderfinger fans very happy throughout the summer.
