More Portugal. The Man More Portugal. The Man

Next year’s Byron Bay Bluesfest has grown once more, with Portugal. The Man, Ziggy Alberts and Snarky Puppy topping the 2024 festival’s third artist announcement.

A total of 11 new acts have joined the roster – the total artist count now sitting at 49 – with other notable names including the Blind Boys Of Alabama, Meshell Ndegeocello, Fiona Boyes & The Fortune Tellers, The Turner Brown Band, and Pierce Brothers. Rounding out the updated roster are Velvet Trip, ROSHANI and Sweet Talk.

In a press statement, Bluesfest director Peter Noble said: “We hope you love our third artist announcement! This announcement is all about Thursday, the festival’s opening day and night. We have loaded some simply stunning headline artists onto Thursday’s bill, making it impossible to miss.

“We are incredibly excited to have Portugal. The Man headlining Thursday night. This is a prolific band that creates amazing music. Their record-breaking song Feel It Still has had almost 1.2 billion listens on Spotify and over 350 million views on YouTube. The rest of their catalogue is equally as good, and we’re absolutely delighted to have them play Bluesfest for the first time.

“Ziggy Alberts is also a fan favourite, having played Bluesfest back in 2018 and recently sold out The Green Room here on the Bluesfest site. Ziggy is also playing on the Thursday. Blind Boys Of Alabama have an incredibly rich history at Bluesfest, having played Bluesfest eight times, the first back in 1992. They are indisputably the most well-known gospel band in the world, and I am so proud to have them play at our 35th anniversary special.

“The Turner Brown Band, known for Sacred Steel, are among the few bands touring this style of music. To catch Sacred Steel, you would normally have to participate in a church service in the deep south of the USA. This is an act not to be missed. We are excited! Thursday is looking good, so now, watch out for Monday!”

A fourth artist announcement is slated to arrive in the coming weeks, following the first announcement (which featured the likes of Jack Johnson, Tom Jones, The Teskey Brothers, Matt Corby and L.A.B) back in August, and the second (adding Dan Sultan, Tim Finn, Ian Moss, Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Cruel Sea and more) just over a month ago.

Bluesfest 2024 will be held over five days at its usual home of the Byron Events Farm in Tyagarah, kicking off on Thursday March 28 and wrapping up on Monday April 1. Tickets are on sale now – find them here.
