Melbourne's own Jessica Says is taking her new album, Do With Me What U Will, on the road this July, with launch shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

A classically trained cellist, her new work has been welcomed warmly and gives a vivid account of her growth from teenager to young adult.

"The songs are about girlhood, mental illness and desire, mostly at the same time,” Jessica says.

Do With Me What U Will is the second album from the Victorian muso, coming eight years after her debut full-length, We Need To Talk. The gap between drinks is the result of a nasty fall in 2010, which resulted in the musician suffering a fractured spine and pelvis.

Her treatment inspired her to pursue nursing and, after gaining work at a Melbourne hospital, she once picked up where she left off to create her deeply personal new work.

"The music is inspired by the women who guided me through the strange passage of adolescence: the sublime candy pop of Britney Spears and the emotional intensity of Dory Previn," Jessica said in a statement. "It's also no coincidence that these two artists fought very public battles related to their mental health."

The album is out now via Chapter Music.
