'I thought the third one was flogging a dead horse so I don't think I will be pushing for a fourth one.'

More Paul Hogan More Paul Hogan

Tourism Australia duped the world with their Dundee ad campaign so well there’s now a renewed hope for a reboot, something that Paul Hogan is not on board for.

Appearing on Today this morning, when Hogan was questioned about the possibility of another film he replied bluntly.

"Not really, no, the first one was the most successful independent film ever made.” Hogan said.

"The second one did huge business, but the third one sort of died. I thought the third one was flogging a dead horse so I don't think I will be pushing for a fourth one."

Fans of the franchise are thinking differently with #bringbackdundee trending on Twitter yesterday and a petition for a fourth movie garnering thousands of signatures.

The push is strengthened by comments the ad’s star Chris Hemsworth made in an interview with news.com.au.

“Hearing such a positive response from a fan point of view, I would definitely be open to it,” Hemsworth said.

“You’d have to find a story and a great script but it’s certainly made me stop and think what the future holds and my next few jobs and whether we could make something like this work.”

The Dundee tourism campaign consisted of several mock film trailers starring Hemsworth, Hogan, Danny McBride, Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Isla Fisher and Liam Hemsworth.

The reveal clip was aired during yesterday’s Super Bowl where its estimated to have been viewed by more than 110 million people in the US.

Even without the film reboot, it’s not the end for the Hemworth and McBride partnership with additional phases of the campaign featuring the likes of Jessica Mauboy and Curtis Stone already in the works.

There was one high-profile Aussie missing from the campaign, Rebel Wilson instead featured in Amazon’s Alexa ad alongside Cardi B and Gordon Ramsey which followed on from a tweet posted last week.
