The much publicised and somewhat controversial Pantera reunion tour will kick off with shows in South America and Mexico in December.

Three of those shows will take place at the Slipknot curated Knotfest events in Columbia, Chile and Brazil and will see them join a line-up featuring fellow headlining acts Slipknot, Judas Priest, and Bring Me The Horizon

They are also set to co-headline the Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Otzacatipan, Mexico.

All posters so far feature the classic Pantera name and logo.

Pantera, whose lineup for the run consists of original members vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown alongside Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante are yet to acknowledge the announcements, but they have posted a video on Instagram in which they indicate this run is "for the brothers".

In the post which you can see below, Pantera pays tribute to their fallen bandmates, brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, featuring the words  "For the brothers. For the fans. For legacy." The video is soundtracked by fans chanting "Pantera" followed by one of Dimbag's iconic riffs from Cowboys From Hell.

No dates or details for the tour have been released.

Tragedy has struck Pantera twice since their initial breakup,  with the tragic onstage death of Dimebag Darrell in December 2004 and the passing of his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul in June 2018.

The members had all remained active, post-Pantera, with Dimebag forming Damage Plan with whom he was playing at the time of his shocking death and Vinnie Paul playing in HellYeah. Anselmo has been involved in several projects, most notably, Down, while brown has been a member of Kill Devil Hill and has released a solo record.

Pantera are one of the most recognisable names in metal. Formed in 1981 in Arlington, Texas, the band developed a stomping, groove-driven blend of ‘southern metal’ that has gone on to influence the sound of modern metal.

The band’s three record run of 1992’s Vulgar Display of Power, 1994’s Far Beyond Driven and 1996’s The Great Southern Trendkill is considered by fans to be their finest work. The band were the recipient of four GRAMMY Awards for 'best metal performance'
