NZ Festival Future In Doubt Following Soundwave Axing

Australia isn't the only country missing out.

The future of popular New Zealand punk/metal festival Westfest is now unclear after organisers announced last night that tickets for the 2016 event will be refunded as a number of the acts set to perform will no longer be touring following the demise of Australia's Soundwave festival just under two weeks ago.

Soundwave 2016 bands such as NOFX, Hatebreed and Refused were to headline the festival at Kumeu on January 30, however now that those particular acts will no longer be touring Australia, it seems they have also axed their New Zealand dates.

In a statement posted to Facebook, organisers announced that not only will 2016 tickets be refunded, but that no more tickets will be available as the festival's future is "unknown".

"Due to a pending discussion with a contracted artist Westfest is unable to confirm any decision made about the festivals continuation in 2016," the statement read.

"However - as their is only one band left standing; Westfest is automatically processing 100% refunds for all ticket holders. Updates to follow. We thank you for your patience and appreciate your need for answers. For now no more tickets are going to be available as the future for Westfest 2016 is unknown."
