Neil Murray Announces New Album & Accompanying Shows

Neil Murray, a member of the Warumpi Band and solo artist, is preparing to release his tenth studio album, The Telling, on Friday, 31 March.

The Telling, stunningly, will mark a recording career of four decades since the Warumpi Band released their debut single, Jailanguru Pakarnu (Out from Jail) in 1983. 

The Telling's powerful opening track and first single, the gloriously ragged country-rocker Broken Land, is out now.

Murray's new album was recorded in Melbourne by Roger Bergodaz and mixed in Sydney by Ted Howard. The record features instrumental contributions from Bill Heckenberg (drums), Craig Kelly (bass), Stephen “Stretch” Teakle (keys, accordion, clavietta), Damien Neil (mandolin, guitar) Jack Howard (trumpet), Shane Reilly (pedal steel), and vocal harmonies from Neil and Grace Robinson.

Last year, Support Act launched the Help A Mate campaign fundraiser for Sammy Butcher. 

Butcher is a renowned guitarist from the central desert, a leading figure in the Indigenous music community, an elder and one of the founders of the Warumpi Band.

In 2021, he had four strokes, limiting his mobility and impacting his cognitive function. 

He lives in a small remote community in the central desert, four hours away from the nearest hospital and cheap supplies and doesn't have access to a vehicle where he can be independent and access these necessities. Access the fundraiser and all the information HERE.
