Aussie rockers Middle Kids have kicked the biggest goal of their career so far: their song Golden Star, from their 2021 album Today We’re The Greatest, scored a slot on a new episode of Ted Lasso.

The Sydney favourites shared their reaction to the sync on social media with the caption, “The collab you’ve all been waiting for”. In an amusing video, band member Tim Fitz (bass) arrives at a house to find Harry Day (drums) and Hannah Joy (vocals) wearing matching soccer shirts.

They settle on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn to watch the new episode of the Apple TV series, and when Golden Star plays, the trio stands up (in slow motion), flinging popcorn onto the ground before ending the video with a snippet of Joy attempting to kick a soccer ball. Check it out below.

They’re not the only Aussie favourites whose music has featured on a popular television show – earlier this year, Brisbane band WAAX had their song, Wild & Weak, synched to the Netflix series Ginny & Georgia.

In a reaction video that’s as wholesome as Middle Kids’ clip below, WAAX vocalist Maz DeVita looks around in shock as the track's opening chords play on Ginny & Georgia

She then holds her head, processing what's happening, and points at her TV. "Holyyyyy thanks for taking our tune ‘Wild and Weak’ for a spin Ginny and Georgia!!" the band wrote on Instagram, tagging the Ginny & Georgia Instagram account, as well as Netflix and Writer and Executive Producer of the show, Sarah Lampert.

Lampert replied to Waax's video: "Love that song!!! So fun and perfect for the show our music supervisor knew what she was doing with that one fer suuuuuure," while Ginny & Georgia's showrunner, Writer and Executive Producer Debra J. Fisher added, "Love that song thank you so much".

2021 offered Middle Kids a chance to sharpen and expand on their already strong US fan contingency on their home turf, performing on The Late Late Show With James Cordon in March 2021 from Sydney.

It was the first time the band had played the title track to Today We’re The Greatest live on TV, with the performance recorded in Sydney's Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace – we love Joy's entry, playing the piano emerging from the organ pit.
