Middle Kids have returned with our fifth preview of their upcoming Faith Crisis Pt. 1 album, opening up about the stress and confusion of the COVID-19 era on a confessional new single titled Terrible News.

In a statement shared with the single this morning (January 11), frontwoman Hannah Joy said of the new cut’s origin: “There was a lot of confusion and information and rules and anger and people judging people and loss and distrust. I eventually felt so overwhelmed by all the noise, I couldn’t take it anymore. The guitars are kinda shouty too or maybe just urgent. I wanted to stack a lot of guitar layers to create almost a guitar choir. We got [our] friend Brendan Champion to play some brass on it which really elevates the song as it marches along.”

The song itself was produced by Jonathan Gilmore (best known for his work with The 1975 and Beabadoobee), and arrives alongside a video directed by Nick McKinlay. Have a look at that below.

Faith Crisis Pt. 1 is primed for release on February 16 via EMI. Thus far Middle Kids have shared four other singles from it, first releasing Bootleg Firecracker last May, followed by Highlands in July, then Dramamine in October and Bend in November. They also celebrated last year’s festive season with the standalone single Driving Home For Christmas (which arrived just weeks before Joy made her acting debut in the festive film Christmess).
