Metallica are BACK! The band have announced a new album, 72 Seasons, and a new tour - no, Australia and New Zealand don't feature on the tour dates.

The legendary heavy metal band have unveiled the zippy, fun first single, Lux Æterna, which is a fantastic way to introduce new music. 72 Seasons will be 12 songs and 77 minutes long and produced by Greg Fidelman alongside James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. The album is Metallica's first since 2016's Hardwired … To Self-Destruct

Hetfield said about the album: "72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves.

"The concept that we were told 'who we are' by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is a reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry."

Pre-order 72 Seasons here.

Now, about that tour: Metallica will be joined by the newly reformed Pantera, Wolfgang Van Halen's Mammoth WVH, Five Finger Death Punch, Architects, and Ice Nine Kills.

The M72 shows start in Amsterdam on 27 April 2023, with the band performing two nights in each city and promising that no two songs will be the same per evening. A segment of ticket sales will benefit Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation, which has raised nearly $13 million for many charitable causes.

Browsing the tour dates, we see enough space for a trek to Australia and New Zealand - here's to that finally rescheduled 2019 tour! July or October 2023? Early 2024? End of 2024?
