This week, Brenda Lee went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her festive classic, Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, 65 years after its initial release.

Not only is that achievement ground (and record) breaking, but it also dethroned Mariah Carey with her annual #1 hit, All I Want For Christmas Is You.

In response to Lee nabbing the #1 place, Carey sent Lee a bouquet of flowers and a handwritten note, which read: “Dearest Ms Brenda, congratulations on your historic #1. Have a Merry Christmas. Love, Mariah”. Lee replied via her Instagram Stories, “Thank you for your sweet note, Mariah Carey! Wishing you the merriest Christmas, too! – Brenda”.

On why she thinks Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree finally hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 after years of #2 on the chart, Lee told Variety, “I have wonderful people at my company that I’ve been with since I was ten years old, and there’s youth involved, and they have worked so hard for me.

“And I have wonderful, wonderful fans that have been with me from the first time I opened my mouth to sing, and they’ve stayed with me, and everybody’s been loyal, and I’m more happy for them than I am for me. You can’t keep a good song down.”
