The 2024 season of Australian Idol is set to delight fans of the television reality singing competition, with music icon Marcia Hines set to return to our screens.

While Hines returned during the 2023 season as a guest judge, TV Tonight reports that she’s signed on to accompany judges Kyle Sandilands and Amy Shark on the judging panel. At the time of writing, it’s unknown if international judges Harry Connick Jr. and Meghan Trainor will reprise their roles. Hosts Ricki-Lee Coulter and Scott Tweedie remain on board for 2024.

Raw auditions for the upcoming season of Australian Idol have been ongoing since August while filming with an audience and the judges begins next week – auditions will be held at the Roslyn Packer Theatre this month. You can score tickets here.

Marcia Hines hinted at her return to Australian Idol next year in July. “It looks like I’m doing it again this year,” she said on the Jess Rowe Big Talk Show earlier this year. “I look forward to it.”

Discussing her original 2000s run on the show, she continued, “It was a wonderful thing to nurture and try and help people who just want to be in the entertainment business.

“These kids were plucked out of obscurity and thrown on the biggest TV show Australia has ever seen. And it was just before social media got crazy.” You can listen to the complete podcast episode here.

In February, Hines appeared on the debut season of the Australian Idol reboot, an experience she felt “honoured” by. “I’m returning to Australian Idol in 2023 as a guest judge!” Hines said. “I feel honoured to have been asked to come back. Australian Idol is a great vehicle for uncovering some fantastic Australian talent. What a ride!”

Upon her return to Australian Idol this year, she had the following advice for up-and-coming undiscovered talents, “The most important thing in anything you do is to be prepared. Be overly prepared. It can’t hurt. When your nerves take over, and you can’t even think, if you are prepared, you will get through it.”

Hines is touring Australia on her Still Shining – 50th Anniversary Concert Tour. She ends the run in New South Wales and Victoria – you can find the remaining tour dates below.
