Man Jailed Following Drug-Related Death At Stereosonic Last Year

A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to jail for supplying illicit drugs to pharmacist Sylvia Choi at last year's Stereosonic Festival, who later died after overdosing. 

As ABC reports, Daniel Huynh pleaded guilty to supplying two ecstasy tablets to Choi at the dance event and will now serve a 12-month sentence with a non-parole period of six months. 

Magistrate Michelle Goodwin said messages sent from Huynh to Choi at the Homebush-based festival proved he was an "organised and experienced person in drug supply".

WhatsApp messages sent by Huynh to friends reportedly said to "deny deny deny" if caught by police. 

During the trial at Burwood court, Huynh's barrister, Carolyn Davenport SC, argued that he should not be punished for Choi's death as it is not yet confirmed if the 25-year-old overdosed on something else she may have taken on the day. 

Davenport further said he supplied a specific amount ordered from friends and that he made no profit.

"He has expressed remorse at the death and the supply of drugs," Davenport said. 

"He has pleaded guilty at the first opportunity."

Daniel Huynh has today been granted bail pending an appeal.
