Local Comedian's 2012 Beyonce Spoof Is Better Than Will Ferrell's

So's his 2013 one, for that matter

More Dave Callan More Dave Callan

As part of Will Ferrell's ongoing struggle to maintain his relevance in a post-Anchorman 2 world, the veteran comedian and actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (US time) to take part in one of Fallon's regular lip-sync battles with the host and fellow funnyman Kevin Hart.

In the process, Ferrell undeniably won the internet's heart with his rendition of Beyonce's hit single Drunk In Love but, despite all the accolades being showered his way, his overwrought rubberman routine is far from the first — or even the best — pisstake of Queen Bey's empowered brand of self-confident choreography. In fact, Australia-based, Irish-born comedian Dave Callan beat Ferrell to the punch years ago, and not just the once.

At the 2012 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, Callan performed a rapturously received three-and-a-half-minute-long routine to Beyonce's Single Ladies, the wild-haired performer bringing a comedic competence to the entire bit as he moves with surprising sincerity, albeit underpinned by indulgently gleeful irony along the way.

At the following year's comedy festival, Callan's Beyonce bit returned - but the Irish expat is a better comedian than merely rehashing 2012's joke, instead opting to introduce an entirely new routine, replete with sexy costume, at his Festival Club show, this time to Beyonce's debut 2003 single, Crazy In Love. With all due respect to Mr Ferrell, Callan kind of completely owned the Beyonce spoof years ago. Good effort, though. If you haven't seen the 2015 edition, you can check it out below.
