No Plans To Make Plans

This song is a successful one for us. It has all of our personality bursting out of it without anything else getting in the way. No one ever told us that a kazoo solo was a stupid idea (it kinda is) and I love to think of this song as a spew of thoughts. The message is about doing something doing good deeds and not being a waste of space. This song is our good deed.

Temper Temper

Probably the main single from our first album and has done some good things for us. It was the song that caught Post Malone and Dre London’s attention and one that we’d always play last at a show. I think it really built the framework for our songs moving forward. It’s in-your-face but has a lot of alt, weird and freaky elements to it.

Elephant In The Room

One of my favourite productions. I love the way we made the song sound like an elephant plodding along. We even had to make Nick unlearn everything about his beaut trombone technique in order to get some ghastly elephant noises out of him.

On Our Own

This is something we can turn the guitars up for. It was a fluke that it ended up getting released in the middle of COVID.

Inappropriate Behaviour

We were never expecting this song to be popular. It has such a positive feel to a negative message and I think we only realised that once it was released. To me it feels nostalgic. I think people love getting on shoulders at festivals when we play this song because they’re imagining themselves playing Tony Hawk. Most fun to play live for all of us.

Spider Legs

A bit of the older, grungy, rock-steady Lime sound here. Still one of my favourites to play live. We wrote this one about an incredibly tall friend of ours that was always turning up at the house. She’d still our booze and spend the night. Always around, creeping through the windows. I’m really proud of this recording. We produced and recorded it ourselves and it’s got an edge.

Dirt Cheap

This was a very different single release for us but it ended up landing in triple j’s Hottest 100. We stopped thinking about what a “single” should sound like and just released a nice, simple song that we loved. That was the turning point for us. Now we just write and record what WE want to release more than ever. Getting a song in the Hottest 100 confirmed to us that we had more people enjoying our music than we thought. A very nice confirmation.

Can’t Take All The Blame

Isn’t it weird that you can have a one-sided argument in a song and no one ever questions what you’re saying? It’s similar to leaving a message on an answering machine. Have you ever had to make a heavy phone call to someone but you end up with their answering machine? It’s very relieving. Have a listen to Louis’ message at the end. He has a little cry.

Bullshit Aside

This comes from our second EP and I still think it has one of the best choruses we’ve written. This was our biggest song for so long. It’s interesting thinking back to that. At the time, you can’t imagine ever releasing a better or more popular song. You just think you’ll be ending the set with that song forever. I can’t imagine what songs we might come up with next.

Everything Else

Another song from the Falling Up The Stairs EP. I love going back and listening to these after so long. The whole EP is raw and genuine. You can see how it formed the sound that we have going on now.

Hanging Upside Down

The tour around this release was the first time we ever sold out shows. What a feeling that is! I think the capacity would’ve been less that 200 but when the room is full and everyone is there for you… that’s incredible.

Walk Over Everything I Do

This is one of Louis’ favourite songs that we’ve written. It was mostly written by him at a piano and hasn’t changed much since his original demo. It’s one of those hidden gems on our last album. You don’t always need to write upbeat songs do you?!

Naturally

The music video to this one really set what was to come. Our mate Jack Shepherd directed this one and we just had a ball. Thomas Austin plays the female character and he’s always working on our music videos too. We formed a music video team that regroups every time it’s time to make another one.

Reprise

I had to add this one to the list because it’s probably the song that everyone skips past on the album. Five of us squished in a room to do a horn rendition of Naturally. Of course we had to pair that with the sound of us having beers in Newtown afterwards.
