Some of the nation's brightest hip hop stars will join forces for a charitable gig in Melbourne next month as part of Oxfam's month-long music-event series OXJAM.

Respected rappers L-FRESH The LION (with Mirrah and MK-1), Mantra, N'fa Jones, Mistress OC, DEX, Charlie Threads and Emerald will take to the stage at The Penny Black on 13 August, with all proceeds being forwarded to Oxfam to help its philanthropic cause.

Presented by Sensible Antixx and Young Henrys, the gig will only cost punters $15 — pretty ridiculous value for money when you consider the calibre of talent on offer.

L-FRESH should be no stranger to our readers; we've been staunch supporters of his for years now, and his success has seen him be named as Australia's first — and, so far, only — fellow in YouTube's Creators For Change Program. Likewise, Mantra (who has worked with the likes of M-Phazes, Urthboy, J-Ro, Cam Bluff and more) has been touted as "your favourite rapper's favourite rapper", and N'fa Jones has a massive following from his time as part of the ARIA-winning outfit 1200 Techniques, not to mention his own colourful solo oeuvre.

Not that the rest of the line-up is anything to scoff at: Mistress OC, for example, has racked up a stream of high-profile supports for acts such as The Pharcyde, Mobb Deep, Thundamentals, 360 and Briggs on her way to developing her significant and dedicated audience, while the prodigious Dex has been a fan-favourite since the tender age of 16.

Similarly, Charlie Threads has demonstrated wunderkind-level talents since turning heads with 2016 mixtape Palm Trees In Graveyards, and the multi-talented Kiwi MC Emerald — who curates the Melbourne Hip Hop Guide — has well and truly made her mark on the trans-Tasman industry with her community work and creative output.

The whole affair promises to be one heck of a party, and all for a good cause. Tickets are on sale now; see theGuide for more information.
