More Hollie Smith More Hollie Smith

Soul-pop veteran Hollie Smith will return to Australia in a couple of months' time for a solid run of both full-band and acoustic-duo shows.

It's only been just over half a year since Smith was last in our neck of the woods, but it's clear she sees no good reason to delay another visit. Kicking off at Sydney's Newtown Social Club on Thursday 9 March, Smith and her band will take her lauded road show — newly energised with recent efforts such as latest single Poor On Poor and other tracks from her acclaimed 2016 album Water Or Gold — to Melbourne and a dual showing at the impending Port Fairy Folk Festival before hitting the west coast for her more minimalist outings in Bunbury, Margaret River, Leederville and Fremantle.

Though Smith technically released her first album, Light From A Distant Shore, in 1999, it wasn't until 2007 that we saw her debut effort for Soundsmith/EMI, the NZ #1-charting Long Player.

She followed that release up in 2010 with the similarly acclaimed Humour & The Misfortune Of Others, which also hit #1 in New Zealand, while she also earned a top-10 return (#8) for her collaborative efforts, including 2011's Band Of Brothers Vol 1, with Mara TK, and 2013's Peace Of Mind with Anika Moa and Boh Runga (as Anika, Boh & Hollie).

True to form, Water Or Gold — Smith's first solo record in more than five years — also worked its way to #1 on the New Zealand charts, making it three such releases in a row to achieve that result for the decorated singer-songwriter.

Mixed at New York's Bunker Studios by Aaron Nevezie (The Black Keys, Dangermouse, The Roots), the album comes with an inimitable touch that ensures it will and powerful endure as a polished piece of work for many years to come.
