King's Coronation: Full Music Program Revealed

The Coronation for King Charles III is happening tomorrow (Saturday, 6 May) at 11 am BST (8 pm AEST). At 5:30 am on Monday (Sunday, 8:30 pm BST), the Coronation Concert takes place. Starring global music superstars, the coronation is looking to become a party.

It’s a weekend that’s expected to be “the event of the century,” per news.com.au – whether you’re a royalist, you’re a staunch anti-monarchist or you’re just curious about what’s going down, The Music has laid out all the artists who will perform at the King’s Coronation Concert.

KATY PERRY

Katy Perry is joining her fellow American Idol judge, Lionel Richie, as a performer at the Coronation Concert.

Katy Perry, an ambassador for The British Asian Trust - a charity founded by King Charles, said in a statement, “I am excited to be performing at the Coronation Concert and helping to shine a further light on the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, whose work includes on-ground initiatives to fundraising, with the aim to find solutions to child trafficking.”

LIONEL RICHIE

The Dancing On The Ceiling singer said, “To share the stage with the other performers at The Coronation Concert is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and it will be an honour and a celebration.”

NICOLE SCHERZINGER & LANG LANG

Nicole Scherzinger, the former Pussycat Dolls leader, will be joined by world-renowned pianist Lang Lang to deliver a rendition of a classic from the Disney film, Mulan. Scherzinger recently showcased her vocal range, taking on a cover of Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On in the style of Led Zeppelin.

ANDREA BOCELLI, FREYA RIDINGS

Andrea Bocelli will perform a duet with Welsh bass-baritone vocalist Sir Bryn Terfel, while North London singer Freya Ridings will be accompanied by classical composer Alexis Ffrench on the piano.

TIWA SAVAGE

Tiwa Savage, the affectionately named “Queen of Afrobeats” will bring her signature style of Afrobeats, R&B, pop and hip-hop music to the King’s Coronation Concert. Savage has been cited as a key player in the global pop power of non-English language artists.

TAKE THAT

Sources told The Daily Mail Australia that Take That (minus original member Robbie Williams) were in talks with the event organisers in the weeks before the King’s Coronation Concert. 

The source commented that lead singer Gary Barlow “has been leading the charge, and things are being moved around to make it happen. They were asked some weeks back and jumped at the chance, they feel very honoured, but there was little notice, so it has been a challenge.

“The dream for the organisers would be for Robbie Williams to join them, that would be so special and quite a moment but that has been a difficult one to make work. It will be a great boost for the King and viewers at home.”

Take That formed in 1990. The original lineup included Barlow, Williams, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange. Robbie Williams left the group in 1995 and has performed as a solo artist ever since. 

PALOMA FAITH

Paloma Faith is an entertainer all too rare in the current popular landscape, with a big, unabashedly fun personality to match bombastic songs. The singer, known for her massive song Only Love Can Hurt Like This, released her fifth album, Infinite Things, in 2020.

STEVE WINWOOD

Steve Winwood, a renowned guitarist and singer and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee (as a member of Traffic) in 2004, said he felt “humbled and honoured” to perform at the King’s Coronation concert, per the Telegraph.

He added, "I was alive and just about remember the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and I, together with millions and millions of other people all around the globe, am a lifelong monarchist."

OLLY MURS

Olly Murs, the runner-up on The X Factor in 2009, has built a longstanding career in music, particularly in the UK. He has been a coach on The Voice UK since 2018 and a recent judge on the new series Starstruck. Last December, Murs released his seventh album, Marry Me, which landed at #1 in the UK.
