Brooklyn-based songstress Julianna Barwick has announced she will release the follow up to her highly successful album of 2011, The Magic Place on Friday 6 September.

Her sophomore album is entitled Nepenthe, which is a word used to describe a "medicine for sorrow". Fittingly, the album was captured and recorded in the bleak winter of Reykjavik with Icelandic producer Alex Somers (Sigur Ros, Jonsi).

Aiding with the serene sounds found on the album is the string ensemble Amiina, guitarist Robert Sturla Reynisson (Mum) and a choir of teenage girls. For a sneak peek of what to expect when the album drops next month, check out the first video to come from the album, One Half.
