More Judas Priest More Judas Priest

Ozzy Osbourne’s replacement act for Power Trip festival has been announced, and it’s his good friends in Judas Priest.

The addition of Priest fits in with the event’s theme of the biggest and best in rock and metal music – the British Steel outfit will join Metallica, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, and Iron Maiden at the Indio, California home ground of Coachella in October.

Blabbermouth reports that Judas Priest will play on the same day as AC/DC. The Power Trip festival schedule currently runs as follows: Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden will warm things up on the first day (Friday, 6 October), while AC/DC and Judas Priest will take the stage on Saturday, 7 October, and Metallica and Tool will close the event on Sunday, 8 October.

Taking to social media, Judas Priest wrote about their addition a few hours ago: “Power Trippers, are you ready for some Judas Priest style Heavy Metal!! Judas Priest are primed and proud to fly the flag for Heavy Metal at this prestigious festival. We are ready to raise double horns way up high together keeping the metal faith at this 'bostin' one of a kind Power Trip world event!”

“As painful as this is, I’ve had to make the decision to bow out of performing on Power Trip in October,” Osbourne wrote on Instagram on Monday (10 July).

While the singer thought he could play the show, the recuperation period after a serious spinal operation has been longer than expected.

Osbourne added, “My original plan was to return to the stage in the summer of 2024, and when the offer to do this show came in, I optimistically moved forward.

“Unfortunately, my body is telling me that I’m just not ready yet and I am much too proud to have the first show that I do in nearly five years be half-assed.”

“Above all, I want to thank my fans, my band, and my crew for their unconditional loyalty and continual support,” he continued. “I love you all and I will see you soon. God Bless, Ozzy”.

In recent Judas Priest news, vocalist Rob Halford joined country music superstar Dolly Parton as she scored her first-ever #1 on the Mediabase Classic Rock Chart with Bygones featuring Halford, Nikki Sixx and John 5. The track is the latest single from her upcoming album, Rockstar.

Parton said about the collaboration a few weeks ago: “Bygones is an original song of mine featuring Rob Halford from Judas Priest, with Nikki Sixx and John 5. It is one of my very favorites [sic] on the whole album. The song fits with so many couples, and coupling my voice with Rob, one of my all-time favorites [sic], made it even more special.”
