Get ready to rock in a technical, noodly kind of way

More Joe Satriani More Joe Satriani

Instrumental rock god Joe Satriani is set to return to Australia for his first headline tour of the country in six years.

Although he was here as recently as 2012, performing as supergroup G3 with fellow stringsmiths Steve Lukather (of Toto) and former pupil Steve Vai, the Unstoppable Momentum tour will be the first chance Aussie audiences have had to get some one-on-hundreds time with the Long Island-bred luminary since 2008.

The tour, which takes its name from Satriani's recent 14th studio full-length, kicks off in New Zealand before hopping the ditch to touch down in Brisbane for five dates Down Under.

Although this is very much a Satch show, the guitar guru will be joined in the flesh by a live band made up of an esteemed roster of musicians, including frequent collaborator and keyboardist Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai), bassist Bryan Beller (Dethklok, Dweezil Zappa) and one-man rhythmic force Marco Minnemann (Adrian Belew, Steve Wilson).
