Soundgarden and The White Stripes were also snubbed.

More Iron Maiden More Iron Maiden

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has announced its 2023 inductees, and they are Missy Elliott, Kate Bush, George Michael, Rage Against The Machine, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson and The Spinners.

Potential inductees and nominees were Iron Maiden, Soundgarden and The White Stripes, who, for another year, won’t be inducted despite their impact on rock and metal music.

Even Rolling Stone - a publication that hasn't covered heavy metal music all too often, has published an op-ed entitled "Enough is enough. It's time for the Rock Hall to recognise metal."

At a speaking tour in Melbourne in 2018, a fan asked Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson if he believed the band belonged in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, to which he responded, “Absolutely!”

But he then added, “I actually think the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is an utter, complete load of bollocks to be honest with you.

“It’s run by a bunch of sanctimonious bloody Americans who wouldn’t know rock’n’roll if it hit them in the face. They need to stop taking Prozac and start drinking fucking beer!” So, today’s news might not be hitting Dickinson too hard.

However, despite this year’s snub, the Rock Hall CEO, Greg Harris, said that the “odds are good” for Iron Maiden to be inducted another year.

"We love that people care — that they care if they're in or out, and that their fans care,” Harris said in a statement, per Blabbermouth. “Now the truth is anybody that's nominated, the odds are good that they're eventually gonna get in.

“In fact, I think it may be as high as 90% eventually go in. Rage [Against The Machine, who are finally getting inducted this year], this was their sixth time, I believe — fifth time on the ballot or sixth time.

“And so sometimes it takes a while. But let's see where it lands. Right now, let's celebrate this year's class, and we can start to debate about next year's class once the spotlight is off of this year's class."

As it stands, the only heavy metal-adjacent acts to make it into the Rock And Hall Of Fame are Metallica, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Van Halen, and Rush.
