The Chicago emo-revival poster man makes his debut jaunt Down Under this September

More Into It. Over It. More Into It. Over It.

Emo/indie-rock vanguard Evan Weiss, best known for his work with torch-bearing outfit Into It. Over It., has announced a string of intimate solo Australian shows this September, his first tour to the country.

In the wake of his broadly acclaimed third studio full-length, Standards, Weiss arrives Down Under a certified alternative icon, not only renowned for his work with IIOI over the past seven years — in addition to the three albums, he has released two compilation albums including the ambitious song-a-week double LP 52 Weeks (2009), an EP (2013's Life Is Suffering) and myriad split releases with the likes of Braid's Bob Nanna, Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate), Owen, Everyone Everywhere and The Great Albatross — but also his contributions to several other cult-favourite acts, including Pet Symmetry (with Dowsing members Erik Czaja and Marcus Nuccio) and Their/They're/There (with fellow Chicago alt icon Mike Kinsella and guitarist Matthew Frank).

Standards builds on the accomplished instrumentation and lyricism laid down by Weiss' earlier IIOI efforts, 2011's Proper and 2013's Intersections, capitalising on the recording and production efforts of John Vanderslice (Spoon, Mountain Goats, Death Cab For Cutie) to deliver the band's most sophisticated and impressive offering to date. Aussie fans will have the chance to hear gorgeously stripped-back renditions of Weiss' evocative, infectious tunes at four eastern dates, kicking off on the man's birthday, Tuesday 27 September, at Yours & Owl's official Festival Fringe event at the Rad Bar, Wollongong.

From there, Into It. Over It. take the road show to Sydney for a show at the Oxford Art Factory on Wednesday 28 September with support from Zzzounds before heading up to Brisbane to play the Black Bear Lodge on Thursday 29 September. Finally, he hits Melbourne's Reverence Hotel on Friday 30 September, once again with Zzzounds joining the fray in addition to ascendant songstress Jess Locke.
