Iggy Azalea has announced her shock departure from the music world, scrapping her planned fourth album to focus more on designing and exploring other creative avenues.

The (now former) rapper shared the bombshell news with her fans on Twitter last night (December 3), explaining that she’s “always been someone who finds my joy in being creative and seeing my ideas come to life”, and although she’d long “used music to deliver my big crazy ideas to the world”, the sonic medium no longer suits her.

Preempting the most predictable of critics, she noted swiftly: “I know a lot of people have this idea that I was ‘bullied away from music’ and that’s something I’ve always laughed at because I’d never be bullied out of anything! In fact, I’m too stubborn. I think I’ve even resisted changes within myself at times, purely because I don’t like being viewed as someone who quits.

“In truth what I’ve known for a long time is that I feel more passionately about design and creative direction than I do about [songwriting]. To many of you that’s no shock to read. It shows in my work... Jokes aside, I do spend a lot more time on that part of things... because I’m most confident at that.”

Azalea went on to confirm that she’s “not going to finish” her next album – the planned follow-up to her 2021 effort The End Of An Era – revealing that although work on the project had been ticking along, she recently iced it to focus her creative energy elsewhere, and hasn’t “felt the urge to go back to it”.

“I feel really happy and passionate in my day-to-day life when my mind’s focused on [the other project] and so I want to stick to what’s undeniably best for me,” she continued. “[I] can’t wait to start sharing some of the things I’ve been involved in creating and hoping you’ll see my quirk and humor in anything I touch!

“I know for some fans this probably makes you feel a little deflated – I’m sorry to let you down. But, it’s more important I don’t let myself down. I hope you’ll understand. Talk soon! I love you.”

Azalea hasn’t yet stated whether her departure from music will be permanent this time around.

Since dropping The End Of An Era, Azalea has released just one standalone single: Money Come, which first arrived in August 2023, followed by a remix featuring Big Boss Bette in September.

In July of 2021, she expressed her want to take a brief hiatus from music after releasing her third album; that lasted until August 2022, when she announced her return to the studio. A few months later, she sold off her master recordings and publishing catalog to Domain Capital, netting her eight figures.

Azalea also launched an OnlyFans page in early 2023, earning her “so much money that [she] won’t say how much it is”.
