"A year ago I was willing to walk away from music because I was tired of the negative energy it attracted.” “But what I’ve learned is that even when I’m minding my business, y’all gonna be negative AND nosey. So if I can’t have peace, neither can you. I’m coming back. Cry about it.”

Iggy Azalea has announced that she is "coming back" to music. The Australian rap superstar took to Twitter today to tell the world about her impending return to music stating "A year ago I was willing to walk away from music because I was tired of the negative energy it attracted.” “But what I’ve learned is that even when I’m minding my business, y’all gonna be negative AND nosey. So if I can’t have peace, neither can you. I’m coming back. Cry about it.”

Following the release of her third studio album The End of an Era, the rapper announced that she would "take a few years away" from making music. At that time, Azalea shared that she would be “Shifting my energy and focus to what I’m most excited about is what is right for me and I hope you’ll continue to support whatever creative projects I’m out here doing!”.

Since making the initial return post on Twitter, the artist responsible for megahits Fancy and Black Widow has been engaging with fans and haters alike sharing further detail as to the artistic direction and intentions of her return to music. Azalea shared that she has no intention of doing anything other than what she feels like doing at this stage of her career.  "I love you guys but please refrain from dropping notes about what you’d like cause I literally do not care & it may make me actually do the exact opposite if anything. That’s how I am."

Azalea also confirmed that it'll be forging a fully independent path forward responding to a fan who asked about a label paring by stating "Same as before I’m still releasing everything via my own label, BAD DREAMS. Not sure who I’ll use to distribute it yet."

Whatever form her return to music takes, it seems likely to be fuelled by Azalea's disdain for the treatment of women inside and outside of the music industry. Back in 2019, the artist shared that "The music industry is so f—ed when it comes to taking advantage of/not respecting the women successfully operating within it; as well as those aspiring to break into it. It’s actually sad.” Azalea has recently doubled down on those comments on Twitter and has been engaging in conversation with followers about them today.

Iggy kept busy during her brief retirement from making music, performing occasionally, while launching a makeup line Totally Plastic and spending time with her child Onyx.
