Aussie punk rockers Hard-Ons have announced the release of their upcoming 14th album, Ripper ‘23, and a corresponding national tour. The new album will be released on Friday, 2 June.

The follow-up to I'm Sorry Sir, That Riff's Been Taken, the band’s ARIA #4 album released in 2021, the Hard-Ons’ new record and tour are arriving this June.

On Thursday, 20 April, the group will also release the album’s first single, Apartment For Two

While I'm Sorry Sir, That Riff's Been Taken was the first record made by the band's current line-up, Ripper '23 is the first one made from start to finish by the present line-up.

New kid/old fan, You Am I’s Tim Rogers, came on board when the band already wrote most of the songs last time; this time, he's been involved from the start.

From the punky attack of the first single, Apartment For Two, to the rock and roll riffage of In Falls Everything, the record is shot through with big hooks, a surging sonic power, and some sweet production touches.

The Hard-Ons’ national tour will take place from 22 June until 8 July. View the full dates below.

A documentary on the Hard-Ons, The Most Australian Band Ever, will be released sometime this year after securing SBS funding.

“The Hard-Ons are extremely pleased to be having a documentary made about us by professionals that know our band musically, spiritually and ideologically very well,” Hard-Ons bassist Ray Ahn said.

“We are honoured and flattered. We look forward to the finished film in great anticipation. We want our story told.”

The documentary is helmed by director Jonathan Sequeira, who previously worked on Descent In The Maelstrom: The Radio Birdman Story and Waiting: The Van Duren Story, and is being produced with the band’s participation.

Since forming in the early ‘80s, the local punk rockers have played with The Ramones and Nirvana, scoring a wealth of praise from Dave Grohl, Red Hot Chili PeppersFlea, Henry Rollins, Warren Ellis and more, and have influenced countless acts.
