Gloom In The Corner Drummer Nic Haberle Quits Band

Melbourne metalcore band The Gloom In The Corner have surprised fans today by announcing the resignation of drummer Nic Haberle.

In a statement on social media, the now ex-member detailed the sacrifice and mental toll of being in a band and his desire to move on to something outside of music.

The full statement reads:

It’s with ambivalence that I announce I am stepping down from my role as drummer for The Gloom in the Corner.

From starry eyed 18 year old me playing at the band booth in Dandenong, to touring Europe last year and headlining the trinity tour this year, gloom has taught me a hell of a lot. I wouldn’t be the person I am today or have grown nearly as much as I have in the last 8 years if it weren’t for Gloom.

Being in a touring band requires a lot of sacrifice, and placed a huge mental and emotional toll on me as an individual. As time has marched ever forward, I’ve found myself less aligned with my purpose, what I want to do in life and who I truly want to be. The time has come in my life for me to dedicate myself to something else.

Thank you to everyone who has made this journey incredible. To every single person who has come to a show, listened to our music, brought one of our insane merch items (the plates!) Or contributed in any way to my journey in the gloom in the corner, you’ve left an impression on me that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Thank you.

The Gloom In The Corner first came to prominence with their 2016 independent release Fear Me. EP releases followed until the band signed with Collision Course in 2020 for the single Violence before ultimately landing with Sharptone Records for the release of 2022 album Trinity.

Just three months ago the band lost guitarist Matt Stevens, so today’s departure continues a tumultuous period of shakeup for the band. It was just four days ago that the band wrapped up their successful Trinity tour in Brisbane at The Zoo.

Future plans for the band are unclear at this stage, but those that caught the recent shows will be glad they took the opportunity.
