Former Qld Boy Band Singer Trent Bell Advances To Next Round Of 'The Voice'

Former Sony-signed boy band singer Trent Bell has advanced to the next round of The Voice after another impressive showing on Monday night. 

The Queensland artist, formerly of The Collective, punched his ticket to the Lives show with a standout performance of Shawn Mendes' There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back.

"Trent, I love your voice," judge Kelly Rowland said.

"I really, really do, it just cuts right through."

Despite an equally-strong outing by 15-year-old Josh, Delta Goodrem nominated Bell to advance to the next round, saying, "I have to take my rock star".

The Collective, which also featured William Singe (featured in Jonas Blue's 2017 hit track, Mama) formed in 2012 during the fourth season of The X Factor Australia where they finished third. 

The group later signed with Sony Music Australia and released their debut single, Surrender, which peaked on the ARIA Singles chart at #6.

Their 2012 self-titled debut album peaked on the ARIA Albums chart at #11. 

"I did have some success in a boy band," Bell said in a pre-recorded video before his first audition on the show.

"We got signed to a record label, which then led me to an amazing music career.

"But the music industry isn't just straightforward. After four years, I'm no longer in a boy band, I'm no longer with a label. 

"I feel a little bit lost at the moment. I've been told no a million times. And it feels good when you get a yes. That's what I'm here for."

Bell joins fan-favourite WA artist Sam Perry into the next round of the competition. 

As TV Tonight reports, last night's episode of The Voice pulled a viewership of 881,000.
