Popular Canadian metalcore group Spiritbox has revealed that former As I Lay Dying bassist Josh Gilbert is their fourth official band member via a new press photo shot by Jonathan Weiner.

After leaving As I Lay Dying last year, Gilbert became a touring member for the Sun Killer outfit and, as of yesterday, has been revealed to be a permanent member of Spiritbox.

Replying to vocalist Courtney LaPlante sharing the picture, a fan asked if Gilbert has been promoted to a full-time band member. She responded, “Yes he is!”

Earlier this week, we reported that users on Reddit pointed out that a new Spiritbox song entitled The Void is due for release next Friday, 21 April, per a leak on Kingdom Leaks. The band also performed The Void in Vancouver on Monday night - you can check out live footage HERE.

The new song may arrive next week, and if it does, it follows a recent Revolver interview with LaPlante, who confirmed that the band have new music on the way.

LaPlante admitted, “We love to sabotage ourselves. So we're like, 'Hey, let's throw in writing new music, too' — and hopefully, we'll get some new music out in the first half of the year. After that, we're gonna hibernate and hopefully write an album. That's the goal. Crazy first half of the year, pretty chill second half.”

The Holy Roller vocalist continued, "Now we have to figure out when do we show you the songs? Do we show you in March? Do we show you in September? Or do we wait until 2024? I don't know. We wrote this music because we really wanna share it with you. It made us feel a certain way and we wanna see if it makes you feel a certain way, too."

She added later in the interview, "If everything aligns and we feel really strongly that everything hits exactly how we want — the art and the music and the whole thing around it — we'll want to put this out as soon as possible."

Announcing his departure from As I Lay Dying last May via social media, Gilbert wrote, “Hello, friends. After 15 years (almost half my life), I've decided to part ways with As I Lay Dying.

"Despite the ups and downs inherent, I'll always be grateful for the profound privilege of being to able to grow up traveling [sic] the world playing music with the band. None of that would be possible without the fans of the band, so for that I sincerely thank you all so much for allowing me the opportunity. I wish the best for AILD moving forward, and I hope to see all of you sooner rather than later.”
