Boston post-hardcore supergroup Fiddlehead have just announced their third album, Death Is Nothing To Us, to be released on Friday, 18 August, via Run For Cover Records/Cooking Vinyl Australia.

To accompany the album, Fiddlehead – vocalist Patrick Flynn and drummer Shawn Costa of Have Heart, Basement guitarist Alex Henery, Big Contest guitarist Alex Dow and bassist Nick Hinsch of Stand Off and Nuclear Age – are heading down under for their first-ever tour in Australia.

Just days after releasing their new album, the hardcore heroes will land in Australia, performing at The Zoo in Brisbane on Wednesday, 23 August, Sydney’s Crowbar on Friday, 25 August, and Melbourne’s Howler on Saturday, 26 August. You can find ticketing details below.

Death Is Nothing To Us follows Fiddlehead’s critically acclaimed 2021 second album, Between The Richness. These dates are extra special (and rare), as Flynn can’t commit to full-length tours across the US let alone the world due to his job as a full-time high school history teacher.

The band’s new album is described as their “most dynamic set of songs to date, with every track pushing further into the melodic and aggressive poles of their sound, all while vocalist Pat Flynn tackles difficult existential themes with an open-heartedness that comes through in every word,” per a press release.

The first single, Sullenboy, resembles a 90s alt-rock/grunge banger with the band's signature gripping hooks and the kind of booming production unique to Run For Cover bands.

"I don’t want people to romanticize [sic] grief and depression, myself included,” Flynn explained about the album’s themes of loss and sadness.

He added, “But I wanted to write about the way loss can perpetuate this feeling of sadness in your life. I didn’t intend to make some kind of thematic trilogy but there is this connection to the first two records, and this album sort of rounds out some of the stages of grief that weren’t addressed previously–especially this feeling of stickiness that a depressive attitude can have.”
