More FANGZ More FANGZ

Since releasing their debut EP For Nothing in July 2019, Sydney punk rockers FANGZ have started parties and mosh pits at all their gigs.

Their second EP, But No Thanks, dropped almost a year after, receiving coverage on The Music. FANGZ have shared singles like the ripping Fine Without You and Let’s Talk between the EP releases and following them.

As a band, they’ve done everything right: put out fun punk music and put on a good show. But, when they released Let’s Talk, websites on the internet – including The Music and Kill Your Stereo – went wild when vocalist Josh Cottreau tried to break a Guinness World Record for eating the most hard-boiled eggs in one sitting.

On Saturday (15 July), FANGZ reflected on the whirlwind of media coverage they received for their eggcellent video, stretching from Australian outlets to international publications such as Metal Hammer, MTV, Loudwire, NME, and many more.

“As I sit here and think about the world we live in where as an artist, you can do all the ‘right’ things, engage conversations around important matters and try to promote good and worthy causes… You still find yourself going largely unnoticed (maybe we’re just not very good?),” FANGZ explained on social media.

“But then all of a sudden, you come up with the dumbest idea you’ve ever had (literally getting your singer to eat as many eggs as possible for your new music video), and it sets the internet on fire. Not complaining - it’s just… kinda weird.”

Leaving a note for fellow artists, FANGZ continued, “Maybe the lesson from this for artists is that you should just do really dumb things, and you might end up on daytime tv or at least get one or two clickbait articles written about you.

“Thank you to the all big dog radio stations, blogs and streaming editorial peeps for your support. It’s been weird but appreciated. Looking forward to continuing doing more dumb things and making new music as well - although maybe the two aren’t mutually exclusive.”

Produced by Tim Maxwell (LOSER), Let's Talk is a signature explosive track from FANGZ. Bassist Jameel Majam shone a light on the meaning behind the song:

"Let's Talk is about getting over the reluctance to ask for help. Getting out of your head and silencing the inner fear of rejection. I wish I had realised earlier that without a good support network, it's hard to do anything. The song also opened my eyes to being a present and active friend to the people around me."
