The band tell us all about it!

While names such as Sia and Nick Cave were pleasing but admittedly unsurprising to see pop up in the nominations for the 2018 Grammys last month, Sydney outfit Mansionair blew us all away when they were confirmed on the prestigious list.

The trio were recognised in the Best Dance Recording category for their work on US duo Odesza's track, Line Of Sight, and speaking to The Music this week, the trio confirmed they were just as stunned when they heard the news while on tour in Germany.

"We were about six hours into a music video shoot in a studio in Berlin," the band said.

"We had played in Berlin the night before and at this point we were so tired and wired we were lying on the floor. Our manager let out a little peep that she had some exciting news to share. We couldn’t believe it, it was a really surreal moment, one that we never expected.

"It took a few hours to sink in as all our friends and family were asleep in Sydney but once all the messages came in we were hugging everyone in the room."

There are many ways to celebrate a Grammy nomination, but its safe to assume Mansionair's way of honouring the occasion may be the most humble.

"After the shoot we celebrated with Berlin’s most famous kebab and started the long drive back to London," they said.

"We kept making Grammy nom jokes in the van, it was a really awesome way to wrap up such a fun tour."

The 2018 Grammys are set to go ahead at Madison Square Garden in New York on 28 January.
