The revered Florida band will be here next month(!)

More Dashboard Confessional More Dashboard Confessional

Celebrated emo outfit Dashboard Confessional will return to Australia for their first shows in five years next month on a whirlwind three-date east-coast tour.

Hitting the usual spots of Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, founding frontman Chris Carrabba, longtime bassist Scott Schoenbeck and relatively recent recruits Armon Jay and Ben Homola will dig into the band's considerable back catalogue to please Aussie punters.

It's hard to believe it's been 17 years since the world was first introduced to Dashboard in its original guise as an acoustic side project for Carrabba, the then-frontman for fellow early '00s emo-rockers Further Seems Forever, with first album The Swiss Army Romance (2000) going on to achieve cult-icon status in the wake of its release.

With the addition of a full band for 2001 sophomore The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most — and its successful reimagining of Swiss Army tune Screaming Infidelities — it was 2003's A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar that proved the real breakthrough for the band, as the single Hands Down helped steer them to international mainstream recognition (buoyed by Vindicated, their contribution to the 2004 soundtrack for Spider-Man 2).

They have released a further three albums — the #2 charting Dusk & Summer(2006) as well as 2007's The Shade Of Poison Trees and 2009's Alter The Ending — in addition to a handful of EPs over the years, including a split with New Found Glory (2010's Swiss Army Bro-Mance) and this year's Covered & Taped release.

Armed with a diverse oeuvre and the fundamental enthusiasm that comes with the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with their army of supporters Down Under, expect Dashboard's September headline shows to be truly special occasions fit for fans old and new alike.

An early-bird presale will be held from 9am tomorrow, 4 August, for Select Touring members.

General public tickets will go on sale from 9am local time next Tuesday, 8 August.
