More Poison Abbey More Poison Abbey

Set to release their debut single this week, Sydney outfit Poison Abbey have been announced as the latest signing on the Dinosaur City Records roster.

The new electro pop/disco project comes from 23-year-old classically-trained pianist-turned-singer Jess Rogleff and collaborator Thomas Studans, who will drop their first track, Upmarket, tomorrow through the label; check it out below.

“I started listening closely to the ways in which top hip hop producers cut up and looped snippets of old and obscure music, constructing entirely new tracks which became pop music in their own right,” Rogleff says of Poison Abbey.

“A huge inspiration for me is The Avalanches record Since I Left You, though I knew I could never afford to clear all the rights for the samples to make something in that sort of style, so I started to look for lesser-known and easier to licence tracks to sample.”

In support of Upmarket, Poison Abbey will perform a launch show for Vivid Live next month.
