Dave Grohl Cooks BBQ For Homeless People In Los Angeles

Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl was in LA last week, but he wasn’t just snapped walking down the street shopping - according to TMZ, he had spent 16 hours at Los Angeles’ Hope Mission cooking for and feeding homeless people.

TMZ reports that he spent 16 hours (14 to cook the meat and two to let it rest) cooking briskets, ribs, and pork butt, as well as coleslaw, cabbage and beans. The publication wrote that Grohl fed over 450 people in need and 50 staff members.

Grohl reportedly arrived at the Hope Mission centre around midnight last Wednesday with overnight supplies and his own meat smoker. What a legend.

The Hope Mission’s CEO, Rowan Vansleve, said about Grohl’s efforts, “In the middle of our 350-mile run to end homelessness, we got the coolest video ever from Dave Grohl, of the Foo Fighters. Not only did I wish us luck, but he cooked for hundreds of people who live in our shelters in the middle of one of the worst storms. Nothing but love and respect for Dave.”

So, without telling anyone, Dave Grohl brought his giant smoker and cooked/fed barbecue and sides for 500 folks at Hope Mission in L.A. during the storms. Paid for it all. Worked 16 hours. Yesterday, Foo Fighters announced that they would perform a handful of headline shows across North America. These gigs follow the band’s previously announced appearances at Boston Calling, Sonic Temple, Fuji Rock, Bonnaroo, and Rock Am Ring music festivals.

Earlier this week, Stern Pinball, the US entertainment company behind the gem pinball machines, James Bond 007, The Mandalorian, Godzilla, The Avengers: Infinity Quest, Jurassic Park, Iron Maiden: Legacy Of The Beast, and more, announced its forthcoming Foo Fighters pinball machine.

The animated video teaser is soundtracked by the Foo Fighters hit, All My Life, captioned "Fighting Soon" from Stern Pinball.

Last month, UK radio presenter Chris Moyles sent the rumour mill into overdrive when he accidentally leaked news about Foo Fighters potentially releasing a new album this month.

Moyles said on his Radio X show, "I love that song so much - Foo Fighters, and Walk," he said after playing the 2011 single. "They've got a new album coming out in, er, March, Foo Fighters... which I'm very much looking forward to.

Of course, Foo Fighters fan pages and numerous news outlets picked up this quote and ran a story, which subsequently caused a "kerfuffle" that Moyles has apologised for.

In March 2022, the music world was rocked by the loss of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Occurring just weeks after a one-off Australian visit, the group (itself borne out of the passing of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain) paid tribute to their late bandmate with a pair of high-profile concerts in his honour in September.

On New Year's Day, Dave Grohl and the remaining members of Foo Fighters confirmed that the band would continue in a touching tribute to Hawkins.

"Foo Fighters were formed 27 years ago to represent the healing power of music and a continuation of life," the band's New Year's post reads.
