More Dave Chappelle More Dave Chappelle

Hot off his acclaimed hosting gig on Saturday Night Live earlier this month, comedy icon Dave Chappelle has announced he is teaming up with Netflix to produce three stand-up specials.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 43-year-old comic will produce an original show with director Stan Lathan, while the other two specials were filmed at Austin City Limits Live in April last year and the Hollywood Palladium this past March.

The projects, which are expected to all premiere in 2017, are Chappelle's first stand-up specials in over a decade, following For What It's Worth, recorded in 2004.

"Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy — searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential," Netflix VP of Original Documentary & Comedy, Lisa Nishimura, said.

"Dave's three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix."

It's fair to say this is the most mainstream attention Chappelle has received since his infamous walk-out from beloved Comedy Central show, Chappelle's Show, in 2005.

His debut hosting spot on SNL last week garnered the show's best ratings in three years.

It has been rumoured that the Netflix specials could serve as a warm-up for the return of Chappelle's Show, though it is purely speculation at this point.
