More Coolio More Coolio

Grammy Award-winning artist Coolio, arguably best known for his seminal hit Gangsta's Paradise and then appearing in the video for Falling In Reverse's terrible cover of it, is finally on the way to Australia.

Although this won't be his first visit to the country, it will be the first in quite some time, with the multi-platinum-selling composer and actor first having to cancel a planned 2009 tour on account of a cocaine possession arrest, and then again last year over visa issues.

Cookin' With Coolio, is so successful he wrote a cookbook by the same name

The I'll C U When U Get There scribe kicks off his rather comprehensive Aussie tour at Ballarat's Karova Lounge on Thursday, July 31, then takes in Melbourne's Brown Alley (August 1), Transit, in Canberra (August 4), an as-yet-TBC venue in Sydney on August 6, the Gold Coast's East88 (August 7), HQ, in Adelaide (August 8), Hobart's Republic Bar on August 9, the King Street Hotel, in Newcastle (August 10), and wraps up in Brisbane at Connistone Lane on Tuesday, August 12.

Despite his run-ins with the po-po (or perhaps because of them), Coolio has nonetheless toured the world and sold millions of records, with Gangsta's Paradise – written as a soundtrack piece for Michelle-Pfeiffer-reaches-the-kids vehicle Dangerous Minds – being a veritable license for the man to print money when it came out in 1995 and dominated everything it so much as looked at.

A slightly lesser known fact about Coolio is that he loves to cook, and his show, Cookin' With Coolio, is so successful he wrote a cookbook by the same name, replete with recipes for “ghetto cuisine” such as “Blasian” (black Asian) and “Ghettalian”. Not a single word of that sentence is made up. It's incredible.
