Morgan Wallen Sets Another Aus Record With 'Last Night'

Six weeks and running now for Morgan Wallen and his track Last Night, which sets another label record.

Mercury Records had their first #1 single in Australia in 1947, then 18 more chart-topping singles during the 1950s, none for the '60s, two in the '70s and then six during the 1980s. Of the five #1s they scored during the '90s, two of those were long-running country-fused tracks, of which Morgan Wallen has tied with one and getting close to another. Jon Bon Jovi's Young Guns soundtrack theme Blaze Of Glory logged six weeks at the top from Sept. 16th 1990, while just over two years later the current-longest-running-country-#1 occurred for Billy Ray Cyrus with Achy Breaky Heart at seven weeks from Oct. 4th 1992. For the record, Mercury's longest-running #1 songs in Australia are MMMBop by Hanson (9 weeks from June 1st, 1997) and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes for The Platters (10 weeks from Feb. 14th, 1959).

So Morgan's Last Night has the longest continual run this century for both Mercury Records and as a country song, while the track has also landed a sixth week at the top in The U.S.A. this week, plus his album One Thing At A Time is here down two spots to #4 while it remains at the top in both the U.S. (10th week) and Canada (9th week), leaving Ed Sheeran's new set debut at #2 in both countries.

Four of the top five songs are on hold again this week, with Cupid for FIFTY FIFTY at #2 for a third week, while it also holds for a third stay at the singles summit in New Zealand, followed by a third week at #3 for Miley Cyrus' Flowers, matching the three weeks she logged at #2, while the team of PinkPantheress and Ice Spice with Boys A Liar (pt.2) gains a third week at #5, after having also logged two weeks at #4, three weeks at #3 and five weeks at #2.

David Kushner and his Daylight track rises two places to land at a new peak of #4 this week, swapping places with SZA's Kill Bill, which drops two places to #6, plus she just issued her SOS album in physical formats (CD, Vinyl, etc.) on Friday (almost half a year after its initial release).

All rising back up one place each are Fast Car for Luke Combs, re-peaking at #7 and scoring a Gold (●) in sales, followed by the first even-numbered-Top-10 slot for The Weeknd and Ariana Grande with Die For You, to #8, with Anti-Hero for Taylor Swift rising to #9 and scoring her half-year (26 weeks) within the Top 10 (equal 13th longest of all time), while regaining a Top 10 berth are Stephen Sanchez and Em Beihold with Until I Found You at #10.

TOP 20

As It Was for Harry Styles rises back up two places to land at #11 while Ed Sheeran's highest placed track this week is Eyes Closed (HP-6, WI10-4), which after surging last week thanks to his new album - (subtract) (still #1 this week) is back down five places to #12, after which is a five-place climb back up to #13 for OneRepublic's I Ain't Worried.

Calm Down for Rema and Selena Gomez drops back down four places to #16 after peaking at #12 last week, while it holds for a second week at the top in Canada, with the second Gold (●) sales certification this week going to the six-week-running UK #1 song Miracle by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, here it dips one spot to #18, after which are two songs holding for a third week in the same position, Something In The Orange by Zach Bryan and Sure Thing by Miguel at #19 and #20 respectively.

TOP 30

Continuing her now-weekly climb is Libianca (with Becky G) and People, which jumps up six places to a new chart height of #22, while the song holds at #2 in New Zealand this week. After four weeks of nestling at #25, the George Ezra track Green Green Grass is back up to #24, with the second new peak within the Top 30 going to See You Again by Tyler, The Creator with Kali Uchis, which moves up three spots to #28.

All falling three places each are Shivers for Ed Sheeran (22 to #25), 10:35 by Tiësto and Tate McRae (23 to #26), You Proof by Morgan Wallen (26 to #29) and last week's returned track Riptide by Vance Joy (27 to #30), while the biggest decline within this chart region is a six place Chemical spill for Post Malone, down to #27.

TOP 40

With the second Lewis Capaldi album dropping on Friday (May 19th), and him doing press and promo during the past week, he lands two Top 40 entries this week, with his latest single Wish You The Best (HP-23) rebounding eleven places to #33, while his first hit single Someone You Loved is only down one spot to #35, and newly certified at 15x▲Platinum in sales.

Luke Combs also has two Top 40 entries this week, one a new entry and the other his almost one-year-old entry The Kind Of Love We Make, which is on hold at #36, while dropping down are I'm Good (Blue) for David Guetta and Bebe Rexha (32 to #38) and Never Felt So Alone for Labrinth and Billie Eilish, an eleven place drop to #40.

TOP 50

J. Cole appears as a guest on one of the new entries this week, and that has pulled his two-year-charted track No Role Modelz back up six places to reclaim its former peaks of #43, last sitting here on August 22nd, 2022, this is the tracks fourth overall claim to this position and peak. Down four spots to #46 is ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine, while Sam Barber sees an eight-place drop to #49 with Straight And Narrow after two weeks of sitting at #41.

Snooze for SZA returns to the Top 50 by jumping up ten places from last week to land at #47, one spot shy of its March 27th peak of #46, while also returning to the Top 50 are Dreams for Fleetwood Mac (52 to #48) and thanks to their Perth tour announcement, the Coldplay 2008 track Viva la Vida jumps up twenty-two spots to land at #50.

NEW ENTRIES

* #21 - MATHEMATICAL DISRESPECT - Lil' Mabu (Lil' Mabu) is the debut single for New York-based 18-year-old rapper born Matthew Peter DeLuca, with the song only running 1:28 minutes; while the track has also landed first week within the Top 30 in England (#27), Ireland (#26) and New Zealand (#23), with the song expected to jump after debuting last week in both The U.S.A. (#90) and Canada (#60).

* #23 - All My Life - Lil' Durk feat. J. Cole (Alamo Records/Sony) is the lead single from the forthcoming eighth studio album for the American rapper from Chicago, called Almost Healed (due May 26th), plus this new entry becomes his first ever Top 50 solo entry, after having previously appeared on four Top 50 entries as a guest rapper, two with Drake on Laugh Now Cry Later (HP-3, August 2020) and In the Bible (HP-14, Sept. 2021), as well as team up with Polo G and The Kid LAROI on No Return (HP-33, June 2021) and with Cardi B and Kanye West on Hot Shit (HP-39, July 2022). Plus J. Cole also lands his 22nd Top 50 entry, made up of 20 solo entries and now two guest vocal spots.

* #31 - Life Goes On - Ed Sheeran featuring Luke Combs (Asylum UK/Atlantic) is the fifth charted track from this week's #1 Album - (subtract), with this version not featured on the album as it was performed by the pair at the May 12th ceremony of the 58th ACM (Country) Awards, giving Luke Combs five and Ed Sheeran seven Top 100 entries this week. Ed's #100 entry last week for End Of Youth and #48 peak for Boat both leave the chart this week, while his highest new entry from last week Curtains drops down to #57 this week, along with his long-running Perfect (#55) and Shape of You (#90).
