Releasing new music is usually a joyous occasion for any band, but the latest track from Yugambeh/Gold Coast-based genre-fusing party starters Bootleg Rascal arrives with some (hilarious) contention.

The duo, aka Carlos Lara and Jimmy Young, has reached out to The Music after being alerted to the fact their manager Rob Carroll has shared “misinformation” via a “fabricated quote” in the press release for Rescue Me… and it sure is a hairy situation.

You see, they failed to read the press release before it was sent and this placeholder quote slipped through:

Frontman Carlos Lara touches on the creative prowess behind ‘Rescue Me’: 'Look, I probably won’t even read this press release, nor am I likely aware we even have a song coming out. My manager won’t be surprised if this placeholder quote is actually sent out to media. I really should read things, but I don’t because I’m a big bald f*ckhead!’

In response, Bootleg Rascal has issued the following statement to set the record straight:

“As of today, we are in fact aware we have a song released. We still haven’t read the press release but we’d like to clarify that Carlos is upset by the misinformation stated in the fabricated quote,” they said.

“Carlos is only a partially bald f*ckhead, therefore we request the current statement is amended to reflect this. Also, we’d like to take this opportunity to advertise the position of Manager for Bootleg Rascal.

“Send your CV’s to bootlegrascal@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you in due course. Regards, Bootleg Rascal.”

The hilarious exchange is the latest in a series of “public rows” in recent years, with another in 2019 seeing Carroll ‘fuming’ after finding out the duo had spent a shitload of money from the band's bank account on booze.

But seriously, Bootleg Rascal do return today with a stellar new cut, Rescue Me, co-produced by ARIA Award-winning talent Greg Stace (Boy & Bear, Gordi, COTERIE), and a music video shot on the Gold Coast by Sam Brumby (Julia Jacklin, The Rubens, Ali Barter).

On the new clip, Young said: “Every Saturday night, Carlos, Fraser and myself stay up late to have pillow fights and talk about the boys we like. During our time together, we also watch re-runs of Baywatch, The Sandlot Kids and clips of Kenny Powers slaying on a jet ski. We thought about what we could do for the music video and then it hit us – we should just pay someone else to sort out a concept for us.”

To celebrate the track, Bootleg Rascal will embark on a tour in October, all the details of which are below.
