Black Midi Announce First Headline Australia And New Zealand Tour

Experimental music group black midi will make their headline tour debut in Australia and New Zealand in March and April 2023.

The tour begins in Auckland, New Zealand, on Sunday, 26 March, before coming to Australia. Black midi will play at Sydney's Factory Theatre on Tuesday, 28 March; they will then appear at OHM Festival at the Powerhouse Theatre in Brisbane on Thursday, 30 March, before concluding the tour in Perth at Rechabite on Sunday, 2 April.

In just four years, the London trio of frontman Geordie Greep, drummer Morgan Simpson and bassist Cameron Picton have made some wild, free-form jazz-influenced music. 

Their latest album, this year's Hellfire, explored themes of war, death and the afterlife in ten extravagant, unpredictable tracks. Hellfire peaked at #45 on the ARIA Albums Chart and followed their progressive-rock-leaning album, 2021's Cavalcade. The group's debut album, Schlagenheim, was released in 2019 and was nominated for that year's Mercury Prize music award.

Black midi have consistently surprised their fans and music critics throughout their albums and live shows with their fusion of jazz, progressive rock, math rock, and post-punk. 

Hellfire transitions from first to third-person storytelling to take on the personas of a traumatised soldier and a deranged murderer over a soundtrack that runs the gamut of dreamy jazz through to black metal. So, they're not a band for everybody, but for those who love them, black midi are unlike anything else in music.

The group are coming to Australia after selling out venues worldwide, including opening for our own King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. They have been labelled "the best band in London" by NME - what do you reckon?
