More Ben Lee More Ben Lee

Did you know that Ben Lee is credited with having invented the acoustic guitar, which was later used much more successfully by Ed Sheeran?

Neither did we, but that's what his Wikipedia page says this morning! The Catch My Disease singer shared a screenshot of the updated page on his Facebook, calling it "a heartbreaking work of staggering genius" with a thank you emoji.

As the post proves, we can't be quoting Wikipedia without a reputable source. But man, it's funny.

This update to my Wikipedia is a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. 🙏

Ben Lee has had a big year so far. He is celebrating 30 years of his music career with his 20th album, the collaborative effort I'M FUN, released in August this year. The album taught Lee that "you can't be too hard on yourself" while he connected with members of his "tribe" - Sad13, Washington, Zooey Deschanel, Shamir, Georgia Maq, and more.

His collaboration with Maq, the Camp Cope vocalist and primary songwriter, highlights the best of both artists. Their track, Arsehole, is the perfect duet: Where many artists might fail to truly grasp the wisdom and humility that comes with 30 years in the industry, Ben Lee captures the feeling perfectly, weaving the soft instrumental around repetitive and powerful vocals. Georgia Maq's vocals create an energetic punch to an otherwise soft and wholesome single.

Earlier this year, Ben Lee tweeted that he should run triple j - "Let me run Triple J I will ignore all data and demographics and only program good shit" after a survey revealed that while triple j's general audience slightly rose from 3.9% to 4.3%, their core audience (18-24-year-olds) took a hit, dropping by 3.6% from 8% share of the market to 4.4%.

The J's now sit behind WSFM (at 11% share), Smooth (9.7% share), 2 "DAY (6.5% share) and Triple M (4.5% share) in their core market.

Lee was reported for bullying after a TikTok swipe at The Wiggles' Murray Cook. The original video saw Lee tell a long-winded story that closed with, "Fuck you, Murray, you know exactly what you did!"

"I made a very silly video full of nonsense stories that had nothing to do with anything, and I've been removed from harassing and bullying Murray Cook from The Wiggles," Lee said in a follow-up video explaining the incident.

Lee then exchanged messages with Cook, who said he enjoyed the video.

Ben Lee will open for The Corrs' one-night-only concert at the Hunter Valley this November alongside Wet Wet Wet and Gaudion. Buy tickets here.
